What's In Your Carpet?

Allergist say that one of the most common places to find things that irritate your nose and cause you to sneeze among other things is your carpet. Most would say remove the carpet, remove the allergen. This is a big mistake because you haven't eliminated the problem.

However, you've created more work and higher heating cost.

In this post:

  • I will tell you what an allergen is.

  • How to remove the allergen in an environmentally safe manner

  • Who allergens affect mostly!

According to Webster's dictionary: An allergen is an exaggerated or abnormal reaction to substances or situations harmless to most people.

Here are some examples of allergens:

  • Dust

  • Pet Hair

  • Pet Dander

  • Human Dander

  • Mold

  • Made-Made Cleaning Chemicals

Allergens affect a wide range of people. It affects people with spring time allergies, people with asthma and influenza. Allergens affect those that are at home after a stay in the hospital. Think about it, when was the last time you were in a dusty hospital? They affect people with tracheotomies.

The environmentally safe way to remove allergens

Step 1. Vacuum high traffic areas and little used places around plants. Vacuuming picks up loss particles on top of the carpet pile

Step 2. Use chemicals that are environmentally friendly. These agents are natural extracts from thing use everyday.

Step 3. Extract all water and solution from the carpet as possible. Helps to eliminate the potential for mildew.

Step 4. Create a wind current. As an aid to good extraction create a circulation of air throughout the room. I can accomplish this by opening the window or turning a fan on or a combination of both. Creating an air current to dry the carpet before mildew process starts.

5 Tips For A Cleaner Carpet

Having a regular cleaning routine is easy and inexpensive. It is not a large, time consuming task. A regular cleaning routine will not eliminate the need for a professional cleaning service. Periodically however, it will help to make the maintenance of your carpet, quicker and less expensive. I will give you 5 tips to help you with your carpet.

  1. Clean vacuum regularly.

A. Make sure the containrs or bag is empty or three-quarters empty (full bags or full containers will cause your machine lose power and effectiveness)

B. Make sure that all filters and brushes are in good repair and they are clean. (This affects power and effective performance)

2. You should pick up large trash items, debris and especially food waste.

A. This will eliminate the potential for unnessary stains

B. By picking up these things by hand, you will stop some of the crumbs from going into the carpet or matting

3. You should vacuum regularly

A. Vacuuming regularly removes dust, dirt and crumbs, as well as save you from a larger cleaning bill.

B. Frequent vacuuming will keep the carpet or rug pile strong and thick.....

4. Clean up liquid stains or food stains quickly.

A. Most carpets are fiber based, therefore the incorrect cleaning of stains will cause permanent damage.

B. Incorrect use of cleaning solutions will make the stains worst and create soap residue.

5. Identify Stain and Solution

A. Most stains are water based or oil-based

B. Read labels carefully before using solutions

C. "DO NOT" Use harsh chemicals, such as bleach, tile cleaners, mildew removers, oven cleaners, drain openers and acne medication.
